Plot Summary:
In San Fransisco of the near future, the Bay Bridge is destroyed by terrorists. Teenager Marcus Yallow and his friends, caught at the wrong place at the wrong time, are taken prisoner by the Department of Homeland Security. They are held in cruel conditions with no contact to the outside world. Their families believe they died in the attacked. When they are finally released, minus one of their party who they do not know the fate of, they return to a changed San Francisco. The DHS are everywhere, monitoring the activities of people and interrogating those engaged in "suspicious" activities. Marcus is determined to restore freedom to the city and drive out the DHS. With his wits, technical know-how and a group of followers on the Internet, Marcus gives the DHS a fight they never expected.

Evaluation:
A digitized, real world version of 1984, Doctorow's novel shows young teens the different ways their digital activities can be monitored. This book can help make teens aware and more vigilant at protecting their digital identity.
