Plot Summary:
Frodo Baggins inherits a gold ring from his Uncle Bilbo Baggins. Joined by Gandalf, two humans, an elf and a dwarf, the Fellowship of the Ring sets off across Middle-earth. They must fight Sauron's forces in order to save all of Middle-earth.

Evaluation:
Tolkien's classic story has inspired many of today's modern fantasy writer. Reading the original works can help teens to see the influence it has had on the fantasy genre as they know it.

Notes:
There are two other parts to The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Return of the King.
The prequel to Lord of the Rings is The Hobbit.

In 2001 New Line Cinema released a theatrical adaptation of The Fellowship of the Ring.
