Helen Potter is homeless and running from her past. Along her journey she must learn to heal.

Plot Summary:
Helen Potter begins the story as a homeless runaway with only a rat for a companion. It is revealed through a series of flashbacks that her father sexually abused her and her mother emotionally abused her. As she journeys through England she meets new friends who help her to come to the decision that only she can decide to heal. She begins reading self-help books and with the companionship of an imaginary giant rat that replaces her real one, who is killed by a cat, she prepares herself to confront her parents and finally move on with her life.

Evaluation:
Helen Potter's plight can help bring hope to victims of abuse. The end of the book includes information on how the book was inspired and how to get in contact with counselors to help abuse victims.
